Here we go!
My prediction of the first debate:
- Obama will straw man McCain all night- his foreign policy equals George Bush.
- Obama will talk in vagaries and platitudes about what he would do.
- Obama will have a couple of tactical “zingers” for McCain. Some stupid slogan someone would put on a bumper sticker or a shirt. He’ll try to make one of those Jack Kennedy debate moments:
- McCain will go after Obama’s many positions on Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan
- Maybe a McCain age joke like this:
Nah!
More to come…
Other Coverage:
Huge Hewitt’s counting the umms, ahhs, and ohhs.
UPDATE:
- Obama starts off and blames the economic crisis on McCain and Bush.
- Obama continues to pseudo-reflect McCain’s position and then put all of the bad on McCain. He did the same thing to Hillary.
- McCain loses on a draw. So far it’s a draw.
- 30 minutes in… how many times has Obama used the word lobbyist?
- McCain is hitting him hard on national security. Obama uses the excuse of Biden? What?
- Hugh Hewitt is keeping a scorecard here.
- Preparation versus precondition on speaking with Iran? This is nuance at it’s best.
- Wow, McCain scores major points on the Iranian issue.
- McCain looking into Putin’s eyes sees three letters: K – G – B
- Barack Obama’s initial statement on Georgia, which was invaded by Russia:
“I strongly condemn the outbreak of violence in Georgia, and urge an immediate end to armed conflict. Now is the time for Georgia and Russia to show restraint, and to avoid an escalation to full scale war. Georgia’s territorial integrity must be respected. All sides should enter into direct talks on behalf of stability in Georgia, and the United States, the United Nations Security Council, and the international community should fully support a peaceful resolution to this crisis.”
Obama was so wrong on this. And there is no way he was going to expand on McCain’s comment on the region.
Here’s a video from the McCain camp DURING the debate! It shows how many times Obama agreed with McCain. Remeber, as I type, the debate is not over!

McCain had an embarrassing performance on Friday night. The best thing he could do for himself and for the country is to end his campaign as soon as possible.
It does not matter so much that he apparently has no strategy and no vision. What is worse that it became apparent that he himself does not believe in what he is saying. This was particularly evident in McCain’s direct attacks on Obama. He was not able to look Obama in the eyes when he said the things McCain himself knew were untrue.
McCain should quit his campaign before his situation might get worse.
What will happen if McCain decides not to give up?
I believe that there will be those who will start to seriously review his war record. Why? McCain presented himself today as a weak man, someone who has something to hide, someone who is afraid, and someone with a secret.
We know McCain’s official version from “Faith of My Fathers.” McCain himself admitted that he somehow renounced his country under torture once.
Do we really have the full story? When will one of his fellow prisoners reveal the real “Hanoi Hilton” story?
I feel sorry for McCain. Instead of risking ruining his reputation, he should retire now.
I’m sorry but you are wrong!!! God help us if Obama wins
this election. Obama sounded to me like someone who
was debating for a college debate team, and nothing more.
When he made comments he just kept going on and on and on and on for what seemed like an eternity. If he was making sense i wouldn’t have minded it so much, but most of the time he made no sense. He obviously knows nothing about anything for instance does he realize that without the people with small businesses there would be no jobs available for people of any income, so why does he want to
penalize those people. I could go on and on about his programs with will suck for americans if he win. If he wins it will be worse than the depression. McCain was speaking to the american public that is why he was looking at us. I think that this debate was done all wrong. They should give them 2 minutes each to answer the question then 1
minute each for a rebutt then they should go on to the next question. The way that they just kept having to respond to each other everytime they said something was getting very rediculous. I sure hope that the next one is run alot better.
Do you really want someone running our country who is willing to sit down with the leaders of some of the worst countries in the world without any preconditions are you nuts? Please vote for McCain, he proved last night that he has the experience that is needed to run our great country,
and Obama cleary does not.
ren,
How much koo-aid do you have to drink before spew all that nonsense?
McCain won the debate, not by much, but he showed clearly he knows the state of the world, and Obama just is clueless.
I do wish McCain would have more clearly spelled out how disasterous Obama’s tax plans would be on the economy.
Where this illusion has come that Obama understands the economy came from I just do not understand? I listen to him and I see clearly a man who does NOT understand economics at ALL!
Go read some of Dick Morris’s writings on Obama’s tax plan and the economy. Morris seems to understand it pretty well.
Also, it’s a historic fact that any time you ‘lower’ the tax rate you increase the revenues. Obama wants to spend, spend, spend, and at the same time raise taxes and thereby lower overall tax revenues. That’ll work great!!! We need to finally get some folks in Washington who understand this and who are willing to rein in spending even while revenue goes up. (revenues increased through LOWERING the tax rates, especially on capital gains) The problem we’ve had in the past, is that as the Dem’s in congress watch the revenue go up they think they have to go out and spend it all!!! Then they go out and blame the tax cuts for the increased deficit………… makes me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!
Typical ‘fast track’ Obama responses…. Me, too! How many times did he say he agreed with John McCain?
Please, Obama had to use Joe “Stand up, Charlie!”
Biden as his foreign policy ‘crutch’?
Voting for Obama is like giving a 16 y.o. the keys to your Lamborgini with a trunk full of dynamite during a forrest fire!
Your worst nightmare is the government controlled by Obama, Nancy and Harry! God Help Us!
Has anyone checked the polls on drudge or aol as to who won the debate??? Check it out… over 350,000 votes each place and McCain is big time winner.. but what the heck.. what does the ” little-guy” know??? They need to be protected from themselves by big government and politically correct educated elites like Obama, Kerry, Nancy and Harry… golly… and this from a middle classer who doe not want Obama trying to protect her.
McCain fortunatly is 2bricks short of a load. He is no more fit to be President than Palin. He lives back in Vietnam, glorifies himself unbearably, arrogant, volitile and personally mentally ill. I can see his elitism, but it’s raw with anger at the world. He will start WWIII guaranteed. He really should get out of politics and take all his land developers and lobbyists with him. He has raped America enough.
